A Houston torta shop was just named one of Yelp's top 100 sandwich shops in the entire country. So if you're a fan of smashing some tortas, come through. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by walls covered in I love torta stickers. Their menu is loaded with dozens of torta options. Each one is piled high with meats, cheeses, eggs, and toppings that make it hard to pick just one. While I waited for my order, I grabbed a massive mango agua fresca. It was ice cold, sweet and refreshing, and practically the size of my head. For food, I went with their 2 most popular options, the Hawaina and the Chilanga. The owner told me what sets their tortas apart from others in Houston is that they specialize in true Mexico City style. That means 3 things. First, they layer multiple meats. Second, the bread is thin, crisp, and toasty rather than oversize and fluffy. And third, you'll never see lettuce here. He compared it to putting ketchup on a Chicago hot dog, so don't even ask. I love their hot sauces as well, and the portions were massive. I got two fully loaded sandwiches and a giant drink for around $31 up your tip and tax for the flavors, size, and price. It's easy to see why this spa earned a national shout out.
